-----Original Message----- In response to your inquiry,
here is a statement from Jane Akre and Steve Wilson. As
we said on the website, we long resisted financial support to avoid even the
appearance that we were motivated by personal gain. That appearance is
created when you lift our words out of their original context and suggest we
ever asked for money because we were destitute or desperate to get back on our
feet. From
the day the “Help Jane & Steve” page was posted, it was clear we
ultimately decided to accept financial gifts because it is not fair that any
single family should shoulder the entire financial burden of a lengthy and
expensive legal battle for truth and honesty on the public airwaves. Here’s
what we said about money accepted for deposit into the Citizens’ Fund For
The Right To Know: “Every
penny contributed to this fund goes to pay legal expenses remaining from the
trial as well as continuing expenses related to the appeal process—paralegals,
transcripts of testimony, etc—only the direct expense of this lawsuit.
Jane and Steve receive none of these funds for their personal use.” We
have painstakingly kept that promise. And although your skepticism in this
regard has yet to be raised by even a single donor to date, you may report that
any one of them is welcomed to a full accounting of every dime expended from
that account. Finally,
your information about a purchase of a home last year in North Florida is not
accurate. John

accurate. Below
is the information on the Jax Beach luxury condo from the public records. Please
tell me how it is in error. Again, have you had an independent accounting of
your collections? Have you published it? Please furnish me with any accounting
that you have. Do you feel that you were candid and honest in your appeals for
money -- considering that you failed to disclose that you are, by any reasonable
standard, wealthy? And, why should other people be obligated to assist you? Or,
as you put it: It's "not fair that any single family should shoulder the
entire financial burden of a lengthy and expensive legal battle for truth and
honesty on the public airwaves." You chose to sue, right?
